What Makes This Person's Life Worth Remembering?

Wallace Alexander Scott registered into WWI to fight for his country. He had mother who was 65 and a brother who was 5 years younger than him. He joined the navy and served as a Machinist First Class. His job was to operate and fix the machines on the USS Ticonderoga. He died a quick death when on September 30th, 1918, when the Ticonderoga was torpedoed and bombed by enemy troops. Some would say that his life didn’t matter because he couldn’t save anyone during the attack, and that death was expected of him. His life was indeed worth remembering. He joined the army to support his mother and brother at home, being the only source of income for the family since his father had already died. He served his country to protect his family and friends, and that is extremely honorable.

What Does The Death Of This Person Tell Us About THe Horrors OF War?

Wallace Alexander Scott died on September 30, 1918. Wallace died a painful but short death like many of the 229 sailors who were also in the battle of Ticonderoga. These 230 deaths were not valued and honored. Rather nobody double took these deaths or his death but was rather anticipated and expected the moment he enlisted into the army. This shows how one of the horrors of war is that there are no feelings in war. Horrors of war don’t only happen during the war but after as well. Many people lost their lives and it has a lasting impact on their families. People now only think of these deaths as numbers rather than husband’s, son’s, and brother's. Some argue that that’s what all soldiers signed up for. They argue that death in war is part of the contract you sign when joining the army. This is wrong because many people were drafted against their will. In conclusion, there are many horrors in war but the most important one is that death is normal in war.

Was This Person's Death Worth It? Why Or Why Not?

Wallace A. Scott’s death was not worth it, because he didn't sacrifice himself to save someone's life, he was assigned to try and fix the boat’s engines but right as he was doing that the boat was attacked by a German U-boat causing his death. Also, his death did not make a big impact to society, since many men were expected to die, and after his death he wasnt waraded any medals of honor. Some people would say that he he risked his life to go and fix the engines at the boat, but he was assigned to do so before the boat was under attack.
